Attendance Procedures

Absences

Attendance at school is mandatory until the end of the school year. Attendance is the parents'/guardians' responsibility under The Education Act.

Parents must call in their child's absence. Messages may be left on the school's answering machine between 4:00 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. If there is an unexplained absence, the school will notify the parent/guardian. All students who are absent must bring a note from their parent/guardian upon return to school. The note must be signed by the parent/guardian and should be handed in to the secretary in room 151 immediately upon arrival to school. Notes for all absences must contain valid reasons and be dated. A student who is absent and may have missed a test, or while absent, missed handing in an assignment, must get an authorized Green Slip from the secretary in room 151.

Late Arrivals, Early Departures or Appointments

Students are expected to arrive at school on time. Students arriving after 8:54 a.m. must report directly to the secretary in room 151 for their Late Slip before going to their locker. The time of arrival will be then be noted and a Late Slip will be issued. If the school has not received a phone call or note at this time, the student must provide a note the following morning by 9:00 a.m. Students leaving school early, must provide a note signed by their parent/guardian to the secretary in room 151 before first period. Parents may also call the school to advi se of the time their child will be leaving. Students who do not have parental authorization but who need to leave the school must first get permission from the Vice-Principal of their level. In all cases, students are required to check in and out with the Secretary in room 151. (PWGB approved)

Each teacher is responsible for their own class policies concerning their assignments, due dates, marking procedures, assessments and evaluation.
