Philemon Wright High School Dress Code Policy

In accordance with The Declaration of Human Rights and Freedoms, we believe that everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this declaration. To that end, everyone attending Philemon Wright High School is expected to behave and dress in a manner that is respectful and mindful of everyone's rights and does not detract from the learning environment that should prevail throughout the school.

Clothing that promotes hatred against visible or ethnic minorities, clothing with offensive words or pictures, clothing which portrays or promotes the use of alcohol or drugs, articles of clothing which could be used as weapons, are some examples of items which are not acceptable at Philemon Wright.

Tank tops that are less than 3 inches in width from neck to shoulder, bare midriffs, shorts and skirts that are more than 3 inches above the knee cap are not appropriate for school, nor are articles of clothing which are ragged or torn. Hair make up, tattoos and body piercing should not interfere with the learning environment. (Interpretation of excessive and outrageous will be determined by Administrative staff).

Overcoats are not to be worn to class. Please keep them in your locker. Hats are to be removed upon entering the school building. If a hat is confiscated by a staff member the same procedure will be followed as with a confiscated Electronic Device. They must not be worn indoors. Footwear must be worn at all times. (Passed by the Governing Board May 1, 2002)
